I am seriously in strong like with the On Demand feature of our new digital cable box. There's a whole freaking section of old TV and while I could do without Different Strokes and The Facts of Life they've got The Monkees!
I had completely forgotten how much I loved the reruns of The Monkees when I was little. They're so playful and silly and yet so "serious" about their "music" at the same time. Each episode had at least two music videos along with enough tongue-in-cheek plot to make my cousins and I positively howl with laughter.
My cousin Jennie I used to fight over who got to be Davy Jones' girlfriend. She usually won and I had to settle for Peter. It's kind of funny that neither Micky nor Mike were ever in the running for fake Monkee boyfriend.
Watching these old episodes I'm noticing just how big and thick Davy's eyebrows were, though. It's a good thing he didn't get me as a girlfriend because the first order of business would have included hot wax and some tweezers.
