Wanted

The Beast and I enjoyed a lovely day off today and during the course of the day we saw Wanted, and let me tell you - wow. It was an incredibly fun, fast, and big story-telling spectacle.

The normal, everyman shlub discovers that his father was one of the most important assassins to ever live, and that he's just been murdered by a man who's now out to get the shlub.

Twists come from every angle, the visual effects are stunning, the allusions to Empire Strike Back are beautiful little easter eggs for viewers in the know, and the ending is just fabulous. Like Gladiator from eons ago, I was very impressed that they didn't chicken out and go for the classic "happy ending".

I won't ruin it for you, but rest assured that you never really know how it's going to play out until it happens.

The scene that makes it totally worth the price of admission, though, is the scene where Wes quits his job. Think of me when you watch and know that I'm giggling right along with you.

Also, the previews all seemed really good, especially the next Batman. The lone exception was Swing Vote, which looks like a complete cinematic abortion.
