Money Talks

It can often be difficult to get a handle on numbers and sums of money when they get to be huge. Our national debt is roughly ten trillion dollars. As far as I'm concerned it might as well be ten gazillion dollars.

To help, I recently discovered that:
  • one million seconds equals 11.7 days
  • one billion seconds equals 32 years
  • one trillion seconds equals 2,727 years
That's 2,727 YEARS. YEARS.

I think your math is wrong, Kater. If 1 billion seconds = 32 years, which is correct, then 1,000 billion seconds (which is 1 trillion) = 32,000 years! That is confirmed here: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_years_is_1_trillion_seconds

Imagine a completely anonymous source giving out incorrect information. The original quote came from the BBC but I couldn't find their article. Either way, it's WAY too much.

Definitely an obscene number!
