Trip to MN!

Just got back (okay, not JUST, but I caught a cold while there so I've been sick and couldn't upload!) from MN and like all good travelers I've got some pics to share!

First the golf:

Okay, this was the shot of the day. I smacked that ball hard and it landed here, perfectly. You can see the green straight ahead. If only all my shots could be that good...

Here's another green (see where the circle of grass is lighter than the surrounding grass? That's the green, I couldn't get the hole in the shot but you can see the sand-trap) with a cornfield just next door. The farmer must find balls in his field all the time...

My brother, Michael, trying to club his way onto the green. Go, Michael!

The putting green my brother installed with his own two hands at my parents house. We played golf twice and after my embarrassing first round I practiced more than a little right here on this little patch of ground - thanks, Michael, you rock! (You can actually see a little of the house - and my dad! - in the background...)

The Fair!

Silly posing

At the Miracle of Birth building, baby chicks, fresh from the oven!

Butter heads!

You know you wish someone would sculpt your head out of butter.

The Wall Street Journal totally covered the butter heads, you guys.

How cool is that?

Crop Art!

Can you read what their tails are spelling?

A Barbie, made entirely from crops.

A picture, made entirely from crops.

Another, cooler, picture, made entirely from crops.

This one was my favorite piece of crop art.

And the food, my god, the food.

Cheese curds - yum!

Frozen chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick. You guys.

Half gone! That's actually only as far as I got. It was good, though...

We also tried the cream puffs, the frozen custard, the snow cones, pronto pups, caramel apples, and I don't remember what else. We stayed away from the deep fried pickles, the hot-dish on a stick, the deep fried twinkies, and anything that seemed a bit too exotic.

You guys, the fair has it's own water tower!

Horse and buggy (not the same one that delivers the Internet to my parents' house)

Pig Barn!

This was parked outside and I loved it.

Rest assured I did NOT put this on my head, but I thought it was cute enough to take a pic of.

A mama and her piglets.

Winner of the Biggest Boar Award. Look at the stroller behind him for perspective.
That is one massive pig.

Pigs on the loose!

Billy goat gruff.

Sleeping in the heat.

The crowds

This ride will take you from one end of the fair to the other, if you just can't walk anymore.

This is a bear, carved out of a tree trunk, giving the peace sign.

A buffalo made of twigs, and a friend.

The St. Croix River, which separates MN from WI

And again.

The view from the deck: a couple of apple trees, one young, one spilling it's fruit all over the ground and behind them, you can barely see it because of all the tall grass, the pond.

Minneapolis and the Dome!

Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing, or as you know it, 3M HQ

St. Paul

Kitty cat, Pickles/Hazel (there is some controversy over her actual name...)

Ripe raspberries

Michael's artwork

The view from the end of the driveway.

I've been coveting one of those purse hanger things forever and I finally found one in Stillwater, MN for FIVE. BUCKS. Doesn't get much better than that.

Dad's chickens. They have fresh eggs every day and what they don't eat they give to the food shelf. Thanks, chickies!

Minnesota's answer to 42nd Street.

Thanks to Mel, Kristen, Chrissy, Jill, Gayle, Katie & Cassie and the fam for hanging with me all week. It was a blast and I'm so excited to do it all again next year!

I agree with Joan! And I kind of want to go there myself now!
