What's Opera, Doc?
Das Rheingold opened at the Met last night and it was apparently quite the star-studded affair. Let's take a look, shall we?
Angelica Huston, daughter of noted director John Huston, looking not as spry as she once did. The dress is sort of shapeless and yet it still doesn't seem to fit, does it? The sheath underneath is too tight and the lace overlay is a bit too draggy. Or am I just being cranky? Also, doing your hair might be fun...for a change.
Meg Ryan looks fine in theory, her navy blue strapless column is fine and her simple jewelry works for the event. However, her jacked up face is making me think of Jack Nicholson's turn as The Joker. How much botox can you inject into your face before you just don't look like you anymore? I guess Meg is fixin to find out.
Vera Farmiga looks uncomfortable. There's just no getting around it. I mean, the dress is great - I love the embellishments and the plunging neckline - but she sort of looks like she'd rather be on a couch with the remote and quart of Ben & Jerry's close at hand.
Christine Baranski looks utterly fab in this one-shouldered satin number. Also, she looks like she's having a rockin' good time.
Patricia Clarkson, the belle of the ball and all-around stellar actress, is the Best in this Show. She's chosen this beautiful champagne colored satin dress and then, eschewing diamonds, plunks a big 'ole emerald down on her neck and the contrast is just gorgeous. Her hair is great and her jewelry is non-traditional and I think she looks amazing. We should all be so lucky to look like P-Clark when we're...you know...however old she is.
