2007: Barack Obama Promised to "Walk on that Picket Line"

“And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself, I’ll will walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that somebody is standing in their corner.” -Barack Obama | 2007

Understand this: before unions we had seven-day work weeks, 12-hour work days, miserable working conditions, unsafe labor practices, no health and safety, no sick time, no health benefits, no vacation time, no respect. Corporations have always been interested in just one thing: profits. The worker bees of this country can expect to travel back in time to these working conditions if unions go under.

Yes, of course, there's corruption. There's corruption everywhere - that's what human beings do. They corrupt corporations, they corrupt unions, they corrupt Wall Street, they corrupt life. But union-busting will harm the middle class. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but do you really want your kids or grandkids to find out what it's like to work with no protection? Live with no protection?
