Yoga Room Rehab

This past Saturday, a bunch of people and I spent the day in the bowels of a Newark, NJ school, painting an old classroom so that it could be re-purposed for use as a yoga room.

Why yoga? you ask. The kids in Newark are getting awfully new-agey, right?

Well, it started as an experiment. One of the kindergarten teachers is a yoga instructor and she decided to give it a try to see if it helped some of the anger issues they had.

Lo and behold, it did. So they found a room, but it needed a little work...
Because it was ugly. No offense to the person who picked out the industrial green, and totally non-matching blue trim. But it was ugly.

Really ugly.

Here we are, half way through the day, feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

And here are two of us, at the end of the day, finishing up the trim.

And here it is finished, painted a pale lavender with a dark purple trim.

We even had enough paint to do the inside of the closets.

And the silver radiators match much nicer with the lavender walls.

We even did the doors!

And we got slightly covered in paint.

Next thing: buy fabric to make curtains. I'm looking at these really beautiful silk saris on Etsy.com. Once it's all ready, I'll post more pics. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who made the day so easy and wonderful.
