It's been a long time since I've posted anything about books on this site but I've just started the third in one of the best trilogies I've ever read. Amazon and their reviewers do a far better job of synopsizing than I ever could, but I will say this: the protagonist is a ballsy little 12-year-old girl who you can't help loving and rooting for. If you liked Harry Potter, you'll love Lyra.
BUT! Do yourself a favor and NEVER watch the movie. I was so excited after I first read the book that I had to see the movie and it ruined things for me so badly that I had to wait more than a year for the film to fade from memory before I could start over, reacquaint myself with the story by re-reading book one, and then jumping into books two and three.
Winter is coming and what better time to hunker down with a good book and go someplace else?
